Your data has answers.
We help you find them.

Most organizations are drowning in data and starving for insight. GMBS Consulting bridges the gap between what your data contains and what your leadership can act on — with the rigor of federal research and the clarity of a trusted advisor.

Your analysts and your executives are speaking different languages.

You have data. You have reports. You may even have dashboards. But somewhere between the SQL query and the boardroom, the insight gets lost — and decisions get made on instinct anyway.

This isn't a technology problem. It's a translation problem. And it's more common than most organizations want to admit.

GMBS Consulting exists at that intersection. We take the kind of rigorous analytical discipline developed in federal research environments — where the stakes of being wrong are measured in public health, not just quarterly earnings — and apply it to your most complex data challenges.

"The goal is not more data. The goal is better decisions. Those are not the same thing — and confusing them is expensive."

Scientific rigor.
Strategic clarity.

Gregory M. Blumenthal, PhD is the Principal of GMBS Consulting. His career began not in boardrooms, but in laboratories — building predictive models of how toxic substances move through biological systems, for agencies that couldn't afford to be wrong.

That work — developing PBPK models for the US EPA, contributing to projects for the NIH, VA, and NASA — instilled a discipline that most business analysts never acquire: the habit of interrogating your own assumptions before your results become decisions.

He now applies that same rigor to the data problems that matter to organizations in healthcare, cybersecurity, nonprofit strategy, and beyond. He is also the co-author of the annual Memphis Poverty Fact Sheet, a resource that uses demographic data to drive policy and community understanding of poverty in the Mid-South.

He is based in Memphis, TN, and works with clients nationally and internationally.

Cybersecurity · Strategic Analytics

Translating Threat Data for the C-Suite

An international cybersecurity firm had sophisticated threat detection capabilities but struggled to communicate risk levels to non-technical executive leadership and enterprise clients. Reporting was technically accurate but operationally useless.

GMBS redesigned the analytics framework to express threat data in business-impact terms — cost exposure, operational risk, and decision thresholds — rather than technical severity scores.

Outcome: Executive team could independently triage alerts and make resource allocation decisions without analyst translation at every step.
Nonprofit · Social Data Science

Memphis Poverty Fact Sheet

Co-authored an annual data resource that synthesizes census, economic, and demographic data to give policymakers, journalists, and community advocates a rigorous, accessible picture of poverty dynamics in Memphis and Shelby County.

The project requires not just analytical precision but the ability to communicate complex socioeconomic relationships to audiences with widely varying technical backgrounds.

Outcome: Cited annually by local media, policy organizations, and grant-making foundations as a primary reference for regional poverty analysis.
Federal Research · Risk Modeling

PBPK Model Evaluation for the US EPA

Developed objective criteria for evaluating Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic models used in federal risk assessments — analytical tools that inform how regulators determine safe exposure thresholds for toxic substances.

The work required building evaluation frameworks that were both scientifically rigorous and practically applicable across a wide range of model types and chemical classes.

Outcome: Contributed to EPA methodologies used in ongoing public health risk assessments nationwide.
Platform Strategy · Data Architecture

Analytics Infrastructure for a Remote Work Platform

A growing remote work platform needed to understand user behavior patterns, retention risk, and feature adoption across a geographically distributed international user base — but had no systematic approach to collecting or interpreting that data.

GMBS designed and implemented the analytical infrastructure from the ground up, including data pipelines, retention modeling, and an executive dashboard that surfaced actionable signals.

Outcome: Leadership team gained ongoing visibility into platform health metrics and could identify at-risk user segments before churn occurred.

Data in service of people, not just profit.

The Memphis Poverty Fact Sheet is an annual publication co-authored by Dr. Blumenthal that uses rigorous demographic and economic analysis to document poverty dynamics in the Memphis metro area.

It is used by policymakers, nonprofit organizations, journalists, and community advocates as a primary reference for understanding — and responding to — economic hardship in one of America's most economically challenged cities.

This work reflects a core belief at GMBS Consulting: that the same analytical discipline that serves corporations and federal agencies can and should serve communities.
